Griffin has a future that is bright, inclusive, and sustainable. My vision is not just about what we do, but how we do it. We are committed to making a positive impact in our community and beyond. It sounds like rhetoric, but I have already been active and involved in helping make Griffin a place that you belong. That's the mission statement of the Downtown Council, A private 5013c charitable organization that strives to make your Griffin a shining example of community.
Our Commitment to representing you in Griffin and in District 3.
Representation is at the heart of my mission. We recognize the importance of participating in all aspects of our city's policy making. Our commitment includes:
Be present: City commissioners are paid to hold their office. In my opinion, that is the minimum your representative should do. missing less than 10% of meetings means missing about 3 per year. The only thing that would prevent me from attending my regularly scheduled meetings is medical or the once in a lifetime events that no one plans for.
Continue to Listen: I participate in regular meetings and events that put me in contact with all walks of life from business professionals, and local commissioners to the workers at Sefcor, Yancey, Hosizaki, and Rinai. I listen to and engage with their problems and their triumphs. Not every problem can be solved quickly. Many problems are actually solved and it just takes knowing the process the city has in place already to set things in the right direction.
Continue to ask questions: For a time, I was known by city employees as someone who kicked the hornets nests. All by asking questions. Eventually I have worked out how to ask the questions without ruffling the feathers and instead get buy-in to work toward a solution.
This feels to me like it should be second nature to your representative now and forever.
